Recharged by a summer of Seattle sun, the Student Council at A.C.E. Language Institute at SPU took on the fall full-force during this month’s meeting.
With SPU students back on campus, Jordan Coquinco, Program Assistant, spoke to Council members about two important opportunities for A.C.E. students to engage with the SPU community. Every month, SPU’s SHARPEN group will hold socials for SPU and A.C.E. students to meet and play games. A.C.E.’s Culture Partners program, which pairs A.C.E. students with SPU students for friendship, conversation, and cultural exchange, will also start next week. With the help of Student Council, Jordan hopes to increase A.C.E.-SPU engagement this fall.
Council members will also engage their fellow students with the environment. A.C.E.’s ECO Club has invited all students to participate in a recycling education program that will teach what and how items are recycled and composted on campus and in the City of Seattle. The Club will also represent A.C.E. at SPU during the annual Green Seattle Day in November. At this fantastic community event, A.C.E. students will learn about the importance of native vegetation and will plant trees alongside Seattle residents.
The Student Council is also in charge of collecting new information from students about their housing and their favorite places to eat, shop, and visit in Seattle. They will share their results with both Kara Schultheiss, Student Services Coordinator, and the Enrollment Services office so that we can improve how we reach out to new students about our fabulous city.
Here’s to starting the school year off with a bang!
