A.C.E. students visit Long Pond Woods

By: Dan Carniaux, Program Coordinator at A.C.E. Language Institute at URI

Students and staff of A.C.E. Language Institute at URI explored Long Pond Woods, one of Rhode Island’s hidden inland treasures. Managed by the Rhode Island Audubon Society, the woods are characterized by large granite rock formations, hemlock forest, and lush rhododendrons. The students are pictured atop an outcropping that looks over Long Pond, just after spotting two wild turkey vultures in the valley below. This very scene is also used in the upcoming Wes Anderson film “Moonrise Kingdom”, which was shot in several locations around the state.
