GIFLE Trainee Takes Part in 2007 Paju English Play Competion
Earlier this year, A.C.E. hosted a group of primary educators from the Gyeonggi-do Institute for Foreign Language Education. The teachers participated in an Action Research curriculum and then implemented their findings in their classrooms in Korea. One such teacher, Kyoung Ok Cho, otherwise known as Koko, has been teaching for 28 years and is currently teaching at Anyang-Gwanak Elementary school. She is very passionate about using drama in the classroom to teach English, and has led workshops titled “How to Dramatize” and “Learning English Through Drama”. The following video is of a short play that her current class performed for the 2007 Paju English Play Competition. Enjoy!
Great job, Koko!

An A.C.E. Program Trainee Tours Seattle by Bike
One of the Korean trainees from the Gangwon program at A.C.E. this summer has written about her experience in Seattle on her bike. It’s nice to see Seattle through the eyes of a visitor.
Knocked the Door and It was Opened to Me !!!
By Namgung Eunmi at GILI–I remember what I said before I left Korea for Seattle. I said “I will do my best for improving and enjoying my life while I am staying Seattle” I am sure, I did do my best for everything in Seattle. Especially, I was trying to be sincere for every moment because, I believe that every single step make a long journey. In addition, a moment in now is connected with right before the moment and it will be connected with right after a moment. That is the reason why I had to be sincere for a moment in now. There were many things I did my best for, but it is very difficult to introduce them all to you, so I’d like to tell you just one thing it was what I like to do most while I was staying in Seattle. Riding a bike! It can be the best way to enjoy Seattle and to make friends. Of course, it depends on you. Read the whole story…

Gangwon Teachers Depart Seattle
We’ve had a wonderful time hosting our group of elementary school teachers from Gangwon Province, South Korea, but it’s time for them to go. They arrived eight weeks ago, and have had a whirlwind introduction to primary education and culture in the United States. They toured a slew of sites such as the Bush School, the Bilingual Orientation Center, the Seattle Public Library’s Children’s Literacy Program, the University of Washington, the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club, and Northwest University’s Graduate Education Research Conference, among others. To a more leisurely end, the Gangwon teachers took weekend trips to Victoria BC, Tillicum Village, Portland, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and LA. (more…)

What have A.C.E. Group Programs been up to?
By Virginia Gabby at A.C.E.–In January we hosted our second group of trainees from the Gyeonggi-do Institute for Foreign Language Education (GIFLE) in Korea. The 23 trainees attended a 4-week English teacher-training program at SPU. Trainees spent 2 weeks at A.C.E. discussing new trends in teaching in the US, studying the US education system and doing action research projects. The highlight of the program was a 2-week teaching practicum in Seattle public and private schools. The trainees observed classes, taught lessons on Korean culture, and gained valuable experience working in American schools.
